Why Have I Not Been Around Much Lately!

Thursday, September 28, 2017

Hello everyone! I hope that you're all just fine this morning - I certainly am! :) Anyway, I just wanted to give you an update on how I'm doing so far.

I’m doing pretty well - except for the fact that Lollipop managed to knock a book that I started reading last week behind my easychair. Actually, I should probably say that Lollipop’s managed to knock another book behind my chair, because this is like the sixth book she’s pawed down off my bookshelf. I love her dearly, but this is starting to get slightly annoying.

I’m only upset because I was reading at least two of the books that disappeared behind the chair, and the chair is difficult to move in order to retrieve the books. It will probably take me months to get them back. Oh, well!

Anyway, I haven’t been posting too much on my blog because I was actually setting up a fresh blog at: http://emeraldfiresbookmark2.blogspot.com. I’ve transferred my posts over to the new blog, but unfortunately I can’t transfer my followers. So that’s why I’m keeping my other blog as well, although I hope that I can remove it at some point. Not to worry though, I won’t be doing that for a while, yet!

It's Friday the Thirteenth!

Friday, February 13, 2015

Hello everyone! Well, for some reason every time I tell my mom that it's Friday the thirteenth, she always says: "Unlucky For Some!" I wondered why she would say that, so when I was about thirteen or so, I asked her why she would always say that and she told me that was what her mother used to say to her.

My Grandmother died when I was still rather young - about six or so - but myself and my mom and dad were living in Rhode Island at the time. Anyway, my Grandma Marjorie's - mom's mom's - birthday was on December 13th, and every time her birthday fell on a Friday, she was ecstatic. She absolutely loved Friday the Thirteenth!

Unfortunately, last night, my computer crashed while I was doing some computer maintenance. I was deleting some extraneous files and programs and updating some of the others that I used more frequently. I was doing fine - almost done - until I attempted to reboot my computer to finish removing the software I didn't use anymore.

I turned my computer back on and discovered that my little darling had completely wiped the 'Windows Operating System', and that no matter what I did the computer wouldn't reinstall it. I was livid! Just angry with myself, because I knew that I hadn't downloaded any viruses or mistakenly installed any new software that was actually malware in disguise. I'm tremendously careful with my downloading and had just updated my Virus Protection Software recently.

Everything seemed fine from my side, so we've sent the laptop out to be fixed today at our local repair shop. My mom says she will go shopping tomorrow afternoon and perhaps pick me up an Apple IPad if I want. That seems like a good idea! ;)

'Murphy's Law' Strikes Again!

Thursday, June 27, 2013

Hello everyone! Well, what does the old adage say? Ah, yes...'Whatever can go wrong, will go wrong.' So it was with the July 3rd Tour Stop for Rift Healer by Diane M. Haynes.

For those of you who stopped by Emeraldfire's Bookmark, expecting to see my review of Rift Healer by Diane M. Haynes ready and waiting, I'm sorry if you were disappointed. Amazingly, my Internet provider chose Wednesday morning to upgrade something in their databases. The computer maintenance caused multiple unforeseen outages around the area, so I was without telephone or Internet access for most of the day on Wednesday.

Thankfully, everything was restored by July 4th; so I was able to finally post my review! :) So, perhaps a day late, but hopefully not a dollar short, please enjoy Rift Healer by Diane Haynes. I appreciate your patience.

Surprise Birthday Party For me at "Red Lobster"!

Tuesday, June 4, 2013

So, as you probably all know by now, it was my birthday on Saturday, June 1st! Mom and I had originally made plans with my best friend Lisa and her mom Sylvia - who just happens to be my mom's best friend, also - to all go to Lake George together on Friday, May 31st, to celebrate my birthday. The plans were all set, and then my mom woke up on the Wednesday - May 29th - with a severe case of gout in her left foot!

We hoped that it would go away by Friday so we could go to Lake George, but unfortunately there was no such luck and we had to postpone our get together until the next week. It all worked out for the best anyway, as Friday's weather turned out to be over 90 and incredibly muggy! Not the best weather to attempt to do anything in, but that was alright. :)

So, by Tuesday afternoon, we were all 'chomping at the bit' to get together. Lisa and Sylvia picked us up at 12:00 P. M., and we off to lunch at Red Lobster. It wasn't necessarily a birthday party - more of a get together of four good friends - but the surprise part was that Lisa and Sylvia gave me a Barnes and Noble Nook!

Lisa knew that my Amazon Kindle had overloaded, but I must say that I never thought that I would receive a Barnes and Noble Nook from her as a birthday present. I certainly wasn't expecting it! Sylvia was kind enough to give me a Barnes and Noble Giftcard for $35 (I think) as well. We stopped and had ice cream after we left Red Lobster and came home around 4:00 P. M.  It's so wonderful to have such great friends! I do believe that a good time was had by all! :)

Computer problems have plagued me all week!

Thursday, March 28, 2013

Hello everyone! Well, for the past week I've had an intermittent Internet connection because my cable company has been experiencing an increased number of outages around the area. I actually have no idea if or when I will have access to the Internet or email from one day to the next! It started out as somewhat sporadic, and has turned increasingly annoying!

In fact, we just had a cable service call today. The lady came and spent between an hour and a half to two hours this afternoon trying to find out what is wrong, as the television, telephone and Internet were all affected by outages at some point during the week. It appears to be fixed now, thank goodness! I just hope that it lasts!

For those of you who dropped by today expecting to find my review of Dead Money by Steve O'Brien, I was finally able to post it and I apologize for the lateness of my review - my computer is finally cooperating!

Reinstating my Blog

Wednesday, November 16, 2011

Hello to you all. I'm very happy to be back online after a forced time away. We are still ourselves: Emeraldfire is Mareena McGirr and Rosefire is her mother Mary McGirr. The problem was multifold. My computer crashed, taking my whole online profile down along with it. Blog was gone, contacts were gone and I now have to basically recreate Emeraldfire's Bookmark all the way from scratch. Thanks so much for your patience and kindness as I try to do this Herculean task basically on my own. :)

I will be slowly reposting all my reviews and my mom's reviews on this site and hope that you will continue to enjoy reading my thoughts and feelings on the books that I read all the time. In case you were wondering what my new blog address means; I am happily owned by three adorable eight-year-old rescue cats: Ruby, Leila and Lollipop. Affectionately known as "Ruby and the Twins"! :) Thanks so much!
