10. The Feast: A Parable of the Ring by Kathryn Elizabeth Jones (2013)
The Parables of Virginia Bean Series Book 2
Length: 119 pages
Genre: Christian Fiction
Started: 29 January 2014

How long has it been on my TBR pile? Since 7 September 2013
Why do I have it? I like Christian fiction and had read and enjoyed Conquering Your Goliaths: A Parable of the Five Stones by the same author in the past.

Virginia has experienced the power and direction of the five stones, and has grown so much closer in her relationship with God. Now, five years on, Virginia will need to use the stones once again. For entirely different reasons.

Keeping her marriage together is not the only thing on Virginia's mind. Her successful business Just Desserts is beginning to founder, her five-year marriage is in trouble and apparently having a child isn't going to happen in the usual way. Virginia is convinced that adoption is the answer.

So, if she did all the of right things, said all of the right words; if she remembered the five stones in her journey to get her child, God would surely have to answer her.

It shouldn't be too difficult...

I must say that I enjoyed The Feast just as much as I did Conquering Your Goliaths. It was interesting to see how much Virginia had grown in her relationship with God - but how she also had a tendency to forget that her relationship with Him still needed to be nurtured. I give this book an A! and look forward to reading the next book in this series some time soon.

Why do I have it? I like Christian fiction and Kathryn Elizabeth Jones is a new author for me.

David gathered five smooth stones to meet and defeat the giant Goliath. What did each of these stones represent and how can you use them to conquer Goliaths on your own personal quests through life? Ms. Virginia Bean will show you how.

Join her as she travels on her own personal journey. See what she does. Learn how she grows. Discover what she becomes.

Conquering Your Goliaths: A Parable of the Five Stones by Kathryn Elizabeth Jones is for anyone desiring to travel beyond mediocrity, pain and fear. Learn of the great power within you, a power given to you by God, a power that must be unleashed in order for you to conquer the Goliaths in your own life. Come to an even deeper understanding of God and what He wants for you.

I enjoyed reading this book very much. I actually started reading this book on April 12 and probably would have finished this book much sooner, but my Kindle's battery overloaded on April 15 and until I can get it fixed or buy a new Kindle for myself, any reading of ebooks will have to be done on my computer. Reading ebooks on my computer slows down the pace of my reading for some reason, and I don't really understand why.

Anyway, in my opinion, Conquering Your Goliaths: A Parable of the Five Stones by Kathryn Elizabeth Jones deserves an A! This book does have a strongly Christian theme running through it. It is very well-written and understandable, and primarily is about how you can live an inspired and inspiring life.

Why do I have it? I enjoy Christian Fiction that has a suspenseful plot and Jennifer AlLee is a new author for me.

Within a week, best-selling author and marriage expert, Natalie Marino is dumped by her husband, receives a desperate phone call from her father and discovers that her estranged sister, Lindsay, is pregnant. A trip down Route 66 to visit their parents, may not be the most ideal bonding experience for the sisters, but it surely couldn't hurt either of them. Or so Natalie thinks, until their car and belongings are stolen and Lindsay's boyfriend begins to stalk them.

Will their trip down The Mother Road bring the sisters closer together, or will their next destination turn out ultimately to be their last? I truly enjoyed this book and found it to be very suspenseful but ultimately uplifting. It definitely struck a chord within me, as I have recently discovered that two close relatives are suffering from the beginnings of Alzheimer's Disease and dementia. I cried throughout this novel but I loved it! I give this book an A!

Why do I have it? I had read the first book and the concept intrigued me.

In the sequel to Dark Star: Confessions of a Rock Idol, Everett Lester is eager to share the redeeming peace of Christ's love through music. Acquitted of murder and newly married, he is trying to get a new tour off the ground. But while his life is on the upswing, Everett's new life as a Christian is threatened, as always, by Satan and his minions.

Everett's older brother, Eddie, is in deep with the mob for Eddie's steep gambling debts and as much as Everett tries to be there for his brother, Eddie's deteriorating  family becomes suspicious and disdainful of his attempts to share the good news. Meanwhile, Everett's young nephew, Wesley, blames his uncle for his younger brother's death. Wesley has recently taken to smoking meth and falls in with psychotic Tony Badino, and the two Antichrists will stop at nothing to bring down Everett Lester and secure his demise.

I really enjoyed this sequel. It was wonderful that this book is still so suspenseful even for Christian fiction. I give this book an A! and look forward to perhaps another book in the series.

Creston Mapes - Dark Star: Confessions of a Rock Idol

Why do I have it? I was intrigued by the concept and Creston Mapes is a new author for me.

The heavy metal band DeathStroke had it all: adoring fans, money, fame and a high-selling music career. The four members of the band were life-long friends who had already been through so much together. Their lead singer was the one who led them to stardom and he knew it! Everett Lester was a man who had everything: drugs, women and a true God-given talent which he was currently squandering while on a dangerous and destructive path.

Everett ostensibly had everything he had ever wanted in life; and yet he had nothing that he truly wanted - love, acceptance and contentment within himself. Then a young Christian woman begins to write to him. Her letters are bewildering to Everett - she professes to hate everything he stands for but to love him with Christ's pure love.

As Everett continues to spiral down into darkness, he clings to the lifeline Karen's letters to him represent. He is completely unaware of the spiritual battle that is being waged for his very soul. When Everett is charged with the murder of his personal psychic - a murder that he doesn't remember committing - he is thrown in jail and threatened by the powers of darkness.

Can Everett as a newly-saved Christian survive the trial and successfully turn his life over to God or will Satan entice Everett to fall again?

I have to say that I enjoyed this book very much. I started reading this book honestly believing that the plot of rock and roll, drugs, and loose women might not lend itself very well to Christian fiction. I was wrong. It was tough starting it, true, but once I began reading it, I couldn't stop! I give this book an A! and look forward to the next book in the series.
