The Rat Chronicles Book Blast Information:

Meet G. W. Rennie

Gerald Rennie, currently working in Port Coquitlam in beer distribution, graduated High School in 1981, has a life long interest in the subject of rats. Previously published a short auto biography about experiences with them in The Rat Worshiper. Lives alone with his five rats in Maple Ridge, British Columbia.

About The Rat Chronicles: Meta Cognition:

An alien race known as the Xzebuliens that exists in an alternate universe has developed the technology to create a rift in our own, that appears on the blind side of the moon. They send asteroids through the rift and deflect them to land on all the major continents of Earth, containing a virus engineered to wipe out the human race, so they can leave their dying world behind after we are gone. There will however, be limitations to the virus, like how far and fast it spreads from the epicenters of the land masses that they strike making our environment toxic to humans, but not to most any other forms of life on the planet. The virus, also designed to turn the environment against humans, including the plant and animal life.

What the aliens did not count on is that the rats of Earth are affected by the virus in a way that mutates them, rendering the virus inert so as not to be dangerous to us through them, but giving them an ability to become telepathic with people through their Meta cognitive abilities that they share with human beings which is evidently lacking in other animal species. They eventually become our allies using their superior senses and intellect that work through us because of their mutated telepathic abilities and the Meta cognitive powers that both our species have in common in thwarting the alien attempts to invade.

An ancient secret the rats discover in an otherworldly alien AI database that they reveal to us through their enhanced mental abilities is so shocking it will change the way people look at rats and our world forever. The human race becomes subservient to the rats because of their accidental alien viral metamorphosis as we depend on each other for the survival of both our species…

The Black Song Inside Blog Tour Information:

Meet Carlyle Clark

Carlyle Clark was raised in Poway, a city just north of San Diego, but is now a proud Chicagolander working in the field of Corporate Security and writing crime and fantasy fiction. He has flailed ineffectually at performing the writer’s requisite myriad of random jobs: pizza deliverer, curb address painter, sweatshop laborer, day laborer, night laborer, security guard, campus police, Gallup pollster, medical courier, vehicle procurer, and signature-for-petitions-getter.

He is a married man with two cats and a dog. He is also a martial arts enthusiast and a CrossFit endurer who enjoys fishing, sports, movies, TV series with continuing storylines, and of course, reading. Most inconsequentially, he holds the unrecognized distinction of being one of the few people in the world who have been paid to watch concrete dry in the dark. Tragically, that is a true statement.

His latest book is the mystery thriller, The Black Song Inside.

About The Black Song Inside:

Atticus Wynn and Rosemary Sanchez, newly engaged private investigators, have seen the dark and violent side of life. Nothing, though, has prepared them for an explosive murder investigation that threatens to tear their relationship apart as they struggle to solve a case that could leave them in prison or dead.

Atticus’s manipulative ex-girlfriend bursts back into their lives wielding a secret about Rosemary’s family that she exploits to force the couple into investigating the execution-style slaying of her lover. The case thrusts Atticus and Rosemary headlong into the world of human trafficking and drug smuggling, while rendering them pawns in Tijuana Cartel captain Armando Villanueva’s bloody bid to take over the cartel.

The Black Song Inside is a vivid crime thriller rife with murder and madness, melded with gallows humor and the heroism of two flawed and compelling protagonists who, if they can save themselves, may learn the nature of redemption and the ability to forgive.

Kathryn Meyer Griffith - Human No Longer

25. Human No Longer by Kathryn Meyer Griffith (2012)
Length: 312 pages
Genre: Horror
Started: 6 July 2013
Finished: 22 July 2013
Where did it come from? Many thanks to Kathryn Meyer Griffith for sending me a copy of this book to read.
How long has it been on my TBR pile? Since 31 January 2013
Why do I have it? I like horror and have read and enjoyed several books by this author in the past.

While celebrating their twelfth anniversary together, Jenny and Jeff Sanders become victims of a bizarre crime as they are preparing to go home. The horrendous attack leaves Jeff dead and Jenny in a temporary coma. When she awakens in the hospital, Jenny returns home to her children in order to heal and grieve. With her husband dead, Jenny and her children must move back to her childhood home - Summer Haven, Florida - into a haunted farm house, situated in the same quiet community where once they had destroyed a family of vampires.

Jenny has no appetite; she's edgy; her eyes hurt. All of these symptoms she initially attributes to trauma and grief. Until one night she can't resist going into the woods or the overpowering urge to drink warm animals' blood. Jenny can no longer deny the truth - her attackers had been vampires.

Now she's becoming what she once reviled. She can't abandon her children, but she must find a way to live in the human world. At night she hunts, hides what she's becoming and attempts to fit in.

Then townspeople begin dying; just like years before. With her blackouts, Jenny fears she may be the killer, or are the culprits actually her vampire attackers? They find her and issue her an ultimatum: join them and become a true vampire - or her family will die...horribly. Jenny resists their influence until the vampires kidnap her children. Then she has to find a way to outwit and ultimately destroy the fiends; rescuing her children from their evil clutches.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were appropriately sympathetic; at least the ones who were supposed to be sympathetic. The plot was extremely intriguing and truly showcased a mother's deep and abiding love for her children. I give this book an A! and am eagerly looking forward to reading the prequel Vampire Blood as soon as I can.

A! - (90-95%)

Detective Ryan O’Clery has always had dreams of a beautiful woman he’d loved and lost but when he discovers his ancestor’s journals from his native Ireland, he realizes his dreams are really the other man’s memories.

Now he is working a series of murders in North Carolina that are eerily similar to cases Rian Kelly was working when his soul mate was murdered during one of Ireland’s most horrific storms, in which the Atlantic Ocean swept over the island all the way to the Irish Sea.

As Hurricane Irene barrels toward the North Carolina coastline, Ryan discovers the serial killer’s real target is a reporter who bears a striking resemblance to the woman of his dreams—a woman with whom Ryan O’Clery is falling deeply in love.

Is history destined to repeat itself? Or can Ryan save Cathleen Reilly from a killer intent on destroying everything he ever loved?

Introducing The Gordonston Ladies Dog Walking Club by Duncan Whitehead!

So, back in June of 2013, I had the pleasure of reading An Actor's Life: A Short Story by Duncan Whitehead and here is my review. Actually, I have also just recently received a copy of Mr. Whitehead's newest release: The Gordonston Ladies Dog Walking Club. I'm really looking forward to reading this book sometime soon.

Meet Duncan Whitehead

Winner of the 2013 and 2014 Reader’s Favorite International Book Award and Gold Medalist. Award Winning Writer, Duncan Whitehead, was born in England and is the author of the best-selling and award-winning The Gordonston's Ladies Dog Walking Club Trilogy. The series, inspired by the quirky characters and eeriness in the real life Savannah neighborhood in which he once lived is a humorous mystery, which boasts an assortment of characters and plot twists. He has also written over 2,000 spoof and comedy news articles, under various aliases, for a variety of websites both in the US and the UK.

He has written further novels; a dark comedy set in Manhattan, The Reluctant Jesus, published in April 2014 and republished in July 2015 and three short stories. Duncan is well known for his charity work, kindness to animals, children and old people; and, of course, his short-lived bullfighting career and his hideous hunchback. In February 2045, he invented time travel and now spends much of his time in either the future (where he has won the lottery an astonishing 117 times) and the present day.

The Gordonston Ladies Dog Walking Club Blurb:

2013 Readers' Favorite International Book Awards Winner and Gold Medalist.
Something is not quite right in the leafy Savannah neighborhood of Gordonston. As the friends and fellow members of her afternoon cocktail club gather to mourn the death and lament the life of their neighbor, Thelma Miller, not all is what it seems. When old friends vie for the attention of widower, Alderman and mayoral candidate Elliott, jealousies surface and friendships are strained. An old woman with a dark secret and an infamous uncle plots her revenge for a perceived wrong done over thirty years before, a once successful children’s writer with his own secret is haunted by memories of the past and aspiring model Kelly Hudd has just won the trip of a lifetime.

As secrets are revealed and history, both old and recent unravel, and an intertwined web of deceits and lies surfaces in the middle class neighborhood, a killer lurks and is anyone really who they seem to be? An enigmatic European gentleman in South America, a young Italian count parading the streets of Paris and a charitable and kindhearted nephew recently arrived from India add to the remarkable assortment of characters in this story of intrigue, deceit and revenge. What is the secret a recently retired accountant is trying to hide and just why did the former showgirl and attractive sixty two year old widow Carla Zipp really have plastic surgery?

A mysterious organization with links to organized crime, a handsome fire fighter who can do no wrong and a trio of widows with deep hidden agendas compound a story of simplistic complexity. As twists and turns lead the reader to a conclusion that they will not see coming and a sucker punch ending that will leave you breathless, the Gordonston Ladies Dog Walking Club’s top priority remains the need to chastise the culprit who refuses to ‘scoop’ after his dog walking sessions in their treasured park.

Diane M. Haynes - Rift Healer

24. Rift Healer by Diane M. Haynes (2012)
The Forest Magic Series Book 1
Length: 293 pages
Genre: Fantasy
Started: 26 June 2013
Finished: 4 July 2013
Where did it come from? Many thanks to Kathy at I am a Reader, Not a Writer for sending me a copy of this book to read.
How long has it been on my TBR pile? Since 31 May 2013
Why do I have it? I like fantasy and Diane M. Haynes is a new author for me.

Fourteen-year-old twins Haley and Lacey are looking forward to having a terrific summer. Spending time with their grandmother Clara in Bidwell, Massachusetts has always been a highlight for the girls. However, unbeknownst to Clara, as well as to most of the residents of the quiet town of Bidwell, Haley and Lacey have a secret that they have been keeping for approximately a year: both girls are actually magically-gifted students, being taught by Clara's best friend Giselle.

For the past fifty years, Giselle Westerfield has been the guardian of the forest, charged with keeping the balance between the magical and natural realms. She has been training Haley and Lacey, as well as Lacey's boyfriend Taylor to use their magic responsibly. But this particular summer is different. After a minor earthquake, the enchanted forest is disturbed; there are rifts that have been opened, spewing forth monstrous infestations that can only come from nightmares.

Giselle's great nephew, the Gifted Micah, as well as his distant cousin Selena arrive to assist Giselle in healing the forest. Much to Selena's consternation, Micah quickly identifies Haley as The One who will become his destiny. But after witnessing a terrifying display of Micah's Gift, Haley cools to his advances and unexpectedly discovers her own Gift - she can heal the earth.

Monsters, mayhem, and teenage angst follow the intrepid little group of defenders as they confront evil within the forest and an ominous prophecy that 'One Will Fall'. Will they heal the rifts in time? Can they save the unicorns? And is Haley truly destined to be with Micah?

I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. The story was well-written and the characters were extremely likable. In my opinion, the plot was also fast-paced and exciting; although reading the book took slightly longer than I expected it would. I give this book an A+! and am looking forward to reading the sequel as soon as possible.

A+! - (96-100%)
