Why do I have it? I like contemporary mysteries and Laurel Dewey is a new author for me.

Jane Perry has resigned from the police department and is trying to make a living as a private investigator. However, her past is rising to haunt her. Seeking comfort at an AA meeting, she meets a woman whose granddaughter was murdered many years ago. This woman discovers what Jane does for a living and asks Jane to drive with her from Colorado to California to find her granddaughter's killer whom she's convinced is still murdering people.

Jane is somewhat skeptical when she finds out that the lady is a New Age devotee but she's desperate for work. They head out on the road, gathering information about the killer, and themselves, along the way. Jane has had several incidents happen to her that border on the paranormal, but is a complete skeptic in that area. But as the road points to a fundamentalist church, belief and faith propel her towards her to a deadly confrontation.

I enjoyed this book because of the plot line of faith and paranormal events mixed with a murder mystery. I enjoy Laurel Dewey as a writer and look forward to her next book. I give this book and A+!

Dwarves and humans have been at war for generations. When blacksmith Davi is sent into the dwarven kingdom - on the heels of his house being burned - to open trade routes between his people with the dwarves, he doesn't expect to find the acceptance he craves among his enemies. I really enjoyed this fantasy novella and hope for more stories of Saruale soon. I give it an A+!

Why do I have it? I have liked Kathryn Meyer Griffith as an author ever since I read her book Witches in high school.

Emma Baker is taken out by a girlfriend to celebrate her first night as a newly-divorced woman. After 10 years of marriage, Jonathan, Emma's husband, had sprung on her the fact that he was in love with another woman and walked out on her and her son Christopher. Emma swore to herself that she would let no man turn her head at the bar; until she met the bouncer, Ben. Their attraction for each other was immediate but they agree to take it slow. Is this desire a flash that will burn out fast, or is it always and forever?

I thought this was an interesting departure for Kathryn Meyer Griffith as she is usually a romantic horror author. This was a contemporary romance with no horror elements at all. I give this short story an A!

Why do I have it? I do like international contemporary mysteries and this was the first book that I read by Camilla Lackberg.

Erica Falck returns to her childhood home in Sweden after her parents deaths. While there, she stumbles onto the body of her childhood best friend. It appears that Alexandra has committed suicide in a bathtub of frozen water, slashing her wrists.

Erica is bewildered: why would a beautiful woman like Alex commit suicide? Taking on Alex's parents request to write a newspaper story about their daughter, Erica joins forces with police detective Patrik Hedstrom to discover Alex's secrets. It soon turns out that some secrets can be deadly; and this one can still claim lives.

I enjoyed this mystery very much. I had never read Stieg Larsson or any other Swedish author, but Camilla Lackberg was a great author to start off with. I give this book an A+!

Why do I have it? I like historical fiction and James Harvey is a new author for me.

Christian Wolfe speaks perfect English. That is why the German-born man is strong-armed into rescuing a German POW from an American beach after he returns to Berlin during World War II. Christian is drawn into a covert mission against his will but meets troubled, beautiful Maggie Neal during that time. For two days, at Grayton Beach, Maggie and Christian begin an affair.

Those two days are remembered forever in their hearts as the war rages on and Christian goes back to Europe. Will destiny prevail for Maggie and Christian? The Grayton Beach Affair lasted two days, but the reprecussions could last longer.

I enjoyed this book very much. It was an interesting mix of thrills and romance. I give it an A!

Agnes Hayden Bashford - Haddie - is struggling with many things is the 1962 town of Wicomico Corners; entering high school, her budding crush on her best friend, Gideon, and waitressing at church suppers. She has big plans to escape Wicomico Corners and make something of herself in the wide world. Then, she witnesses the murder of a black teenager and the resulting court case exposes the racial tensions that Haddie couldn't even begin to contemplate could exist in her tiny town.

I enjoyed this book very much. The characters were very well written and the setting was believeable for the time period. I give this story an A+!

I enjoyed this book very much. It was very moving and a book that I will enjoy having on my bookshelves. I tend to cry a lot at touching books and that is what happened as I read this book. I give it an A!
